Slideshow of the Äppelfest 2026

Hi there,

Franck writing here.

Did you already hear about an apple festival? Not something hosted by Steve Jobs or Tim Cook, not that Apple. In Luxembourg, the Äppelfest, held annually in Steinsel, is a traditional apple festival. There are no pesticides killing off “nasty” bugs and no robotic harvesting, just apple trees and people picking the fruit by hand.

In autumn, Steinsel’s orchards open their gates to the public for self-picking. You pick the fruit, enjoy some local specialties served on-site, and pay for your harvest by the kilo before leaving. Then, it’s up to you to get creative with the kilos of apples you’re hauling home. Whether eaten plain, baked into a tart, or made into jam, they’re delicious any way you serve them.

With Anitha, we visited the festival on September 27, 2026. While you wait for our next snail mail edition coming in November 2026 (which won’t be dedicated to this event but will mention it), here is a video about it.

If you enjoy this kind of content and want to discover Luxembourg, other videos are available.

For the “Grand Duchy Tales” Halloween special released this month, I visited Mont Saint-Jean, famous for castle ruins said to be visited every seven years by a “White Lady” ghost. This time, the photoshoot was recorded  using a bodycam.

If you didn’t have time to order a copy of that edition, you’ll soon be able to make it yourself by downloading the necessary files from this page, allowing you to print, cut, fold, and assemble every element.

Another bodycam video features a simple Saturday morning walk, starting at the Luxembourg City market and ending at the Corniche, renowned as the “most beautiful balcony in the world.”

Finally, here is another photo slideshow of Vianden Castle in northern Luxembourg, which Anitha and I visited on a snowy day.

The music for these videos (except for the Vianden one) was composed by myself and is available on cryptrz.org, Bandcamp and YouTube.

Enjoy watching and listening.
